12-year-old Delema Lou Sits Poor was last seen on February 20th 1974, in Pine Ridge, South Dakota. That morning, she and another 12-year-old girl were seen leaving Delema’s home and heading along a road that led from Oglala to Manderson within the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. The walk would have taken them around 7 hours, and temperatures that day had dropped well below freezing.

Delema’s friend turned back shortly after reaching the Red Cloud Indian School as her hands and feet were frost bitten. According to the friend, Delema wanted to carry on walking, and this was the last time she was ever seen or heard from. Her family reported her missing shortly after to the Pine Ridge Police Department, but there has been little movement in her case.

Delema Lou Sits Poor is a member of the Oglala Sioux with brown hair, brown eyes, 5’5” and 135 lbs. She was last seen wearing a white down-filled jacket with two brown stripes on the sleeves, brown bell bottoms and trainers. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety at 605-867-5141, quoting case number 42412.
